Your mouth and the teeth found within it should never be taken for granted. A healthy mouth is an indicator of good health, and it goes a long way to making a good first impression. Many people find out too late to how uncomfortable it is to walk around sporting a mouthful of damaged or yellow teeth. So before you have to worry about dental problems, you should make sure that your oral hygiene routine is spectacular. All it takes is a few minutes at various times each day, and maybe a few dollars here and there to get some good dental products. In the end, the fate of your mouth is entirely up to you which is either good or bad depending on how much effort you want to put into it.

1. Brushing is the most important thing you can do for your teeth. Many people still use the technique taught to them when they were children. It never hurts to update your approach to dental care, and don’t be afraid to brush for longer periods of time. Just be careful not to scrub too profusely when it comes to your gum area. And make sure to use an adequate amount of toothpaste that spreads evenly throughout your mouth.

2. Brushing is great for the surface of your teeth, but you have to deal with everything going on in between as well. This is where flossing comes in. A lot of people skip this step for various reasons, but it is breaking a cardinal dental rule to skip flossing. Flossing is essential for getting rid of plaque build up in between your teeth that can lead to serious complications. After your oral hygiene routine that should include brushing and flossing, it helps to top things off with a brief rinse of mouthwash.

3. Try your best to stay away from sugary substances as they are a quick route to rotten teeth. Sugar found in soft drinks is probably the worst culprit out there. You should also avoid candy and pure sugar as well. In general, the things that are bad for your body will also be bad for your teeth. Use this rule when thinking about your diet and how it will affect your dental health.

4. If you happen to have yellow teeth, then a trip to the dentist might be in order. You can also try to treat the situation yourself with white strips or a teeth whitening pen. There are many whitening products on the market that are easy to use while being cost effective. Most of them work equally as well, so it’s just up to you to choose which application you prefer.
